Without Icing Workshop - The Actor-Singer
For Venues and Educational Establishments
The best communicator of song is the performer who is not scared to challenge the parameters of vocal and physical technique. The workshop will look closely at the work of the actor-singer aiming to discover a personal 'voice' that communicates emotional meaning inherent to the musical theatre song and text. Participants will look not only at sung and spoken vocal technique, but assess the way in which the body and its physical action can alter sound and the manner in which the song can be communicated through performance.
The workshop will encourage participants to explore and observe the wonders of the human voice through group and individual exercises and to access the singing voice with confidence.
Participants will be required to prepare two contrasting songs, which will be 'worked on' and performed within the workshop environment.
The workshop, which is specifically aimed at those who have had some actor training, will explore the vocal techniques that have been observed in the performance Without Icing. Students from 16 into higher education (undergraduate/postgraduate) are most welcome.
Half-day or whole-day workshops will be tailored to the needs of each institution or venue. Facilities for the workshop must include either an electric piano or acoustic piano (tuned) and a performance space large enough to run the workshop.
